"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address." - You've Got Mail

It's that time of year again...FALL!  Thank heavens this heat is exhausting.    Todd and I are BOTH in school this semester   Todd's back at North Carolina State University and trucking through towards his Bachelors and I'm at Wake Technical Community College on the Associates of Arts degree heading for the University Transfer.

We had a great time picking out school supplies it was like we were kids again.  Todd grabbed anything that was cheap and would do the trick while had a much higher standard if it wasn't cute it wasn't going in my basket!

Classes started officially for us this past week and we both had our first class on Thursday.  Not very exciting as most first days go as usual all you get is the syllabus and the introductions but over all we both had great starts to this school semester and look forward to good grades...although if I pass I'm happy!

On another note....

I have been attempting the couponing brigade and lets just say it's working.  I started off slow trying to get the hang of things and see how everything works.  It's an art form I've learned.  It takes patience, determination, and LOTS of organization to really get what you're looking for out of it.  As of now I've collected a years worth of toothpaste, laundry detergent, soap bars, and various other items.  It's starting to be come to much for my pantry to hold, the best problem in the world to have, so we're looking to make it more organized.  I'm no wear near some of those extreme couponers but I'm trying.

The best I've done so far is save 70% on a grocery bill.  $100.00 worth of food and products for $30.00 it was the best shopping trip ever!

New additions (and no I don't mean babies)

Saturday the weekend of Easter Todd and I went up to Hickory, NC to move Todd's father (Todd Sr.) to live in Garner, NC with us.  It was a fun adventure moving all the stuff out of the house and into a moving truck then 200 miles eastward towards the coast then unloading (I'll be honest I was almost no help).  It's been fun getting use to the "which Todd is this for?" situations but we're adjusting well.  He's been out of the country for a few weeks so it's really not going to settle entirely done until after he gets back.

Another Season, Another Semester

Spring has sprung and we're getting ready for changes.  Planting season is just around the corner and the garden is getting close to being done.  By the end of this week or next we will have a garden ready to receive plants to feed us through the summer and early fall.  I'm so excited and really hope that I don't kill all the plants and waist a whole season of yummy fruits and veggies.

As a proud southern women I just want to boast for a moment that I, with my own two hands, some nails, and a hammer built the garden box all by myself.  I'll be honest it turned out really nicely too!

Todd has been re-enrolled at North Carolina State University and begins classes again for the summer semester one at the end of May.  We couldn't be more happier for this to happen.  We actually found out the great news on March, 29th 2011 (which so happened to be my birthday, what a great present!)

We probably have another two years or so until graduation (depending on classes and such).  Engineering students are crazy so being as they're classes are stupid hard a full-time credit is a little different.

We're extremely excited and can't wait to see what the future holds for us!

The Honeymooners

Two and a half months after we were married we whisked off to Boone, NC for our week long honeymoon.  We started our trek up to the mountains Sunday afternoon after church.  We stopped off some good friends house, Stef and Bob, to drop off Duncan to play with this "girlfriend" Mimi.

Once Duncan was blissfully unaware that we were leaving (which took like five seconds once we got into Mimi's house).  We said our goodbyes and hit the road.

We took the usual 3 hour drive and made a pit stop in Hickory, NC. The home town of Todd and stayed the night and played board games with Todd Sr. his dad and Amber his sister.  Well you can imagine the craziness that unfolded from that one!

We had a blasty blast and then went to bed.  Monday morning we hit the road for Boone, NC!  What a drive and site it was.  The Great Smokey Mountains are really something you just have to experience to truly enjoy.

The views area breath taking everywhere you look.  You can't go five whole minutes without seeing something that simply amazes you.  Poor Todd I drove him crazy after awhile since I'm a very dramatic girl for good or bad.  I would say dramatically how beautiful everything was every time I saw it.  After a while he said "Emily we get it, it's pretty." However, me the ever drama queen continued to express the vast beauty that was The Great Smoky Mountains.

We traveled up the neighborhood road which was a long twisting typical mountain road that due to the steep hills in the mountains could not extend directly up so it twisted and turned and snaked and took a few minutes of a drive.  The drive however was completely worth it for the views of the mountains were at its best there.

Once on top of the mountain we settled into our cabin.  We stayed at the cabin named Top Snaggy.  It was was beautiful!  It was a two story beautifully built wooden cabin with all the mountain glories a cabin should have.  The floors were wooden, the walls were wooden the CEILINGS were wooden! The management was so nice to us we had just a wonderful experience over all.

There was a pool table and a hot tub and cable! The first day we got there we decided to get an idea of what the cabin was like and check it out and see all around then to go to the grocery store to get some supplies... aka food.  So after we took ourselves on a tour of the place we hit up Walmart for some food and yummy goodies.  We got a few dinners worth and some Deans and Chips since it was a celebration after all!  After that we came back to the cabin and settled in and put the groceries away.  Then we hit up the hot tub for the first time on the trip.  It was then and there we decided to spend every moment we could in that hot tub.  So at least once a day we were in there sometimes twice a day!

Tuesday we went out to lunch at Our Daily Bread.  AMAZING... that's really all that needs to be said about it.  It had been a place Todd had talked about for a few years so it was a must on our list of things to do while honeymooning.  We drove around Boone and looked at ASU and all the hidden treasures that Boone had to offer.  We would have walked but I wasn't prepared for how windy and cold it would be so I voted we drive, so we did.  Then we headed back to the cabin for more relaxation.

The rest of the week we stayed in enjoyed each others company and sat looking at the mountains and chilling in the hot tub.

Then Thursday night we got a wonderful surprise! SNOW!!  It really couldn't have been more perfect than it was.  We were completely covered with a white powdery blanket of snow.  That night as it was snowing we both looked at each other and said: "Hot tub?!"  So we rushed down to the hot tub and quickly uncovered it... after all it was snowing and below freezing and we're standing around in bathing suites like crazy people!  Then we rushed into the nice hot water.  It was the coolest sensation ever to be surrounded by snow and having snow fall on you and you be completely content and warm in the water.

Friday morning Todd shoveled snow off the steps of the cabin the first time I had ever seen a snow shovel!  It got put to good use.  The mountain man was a nature with it ;)

Friday afternoon we chilled out in the hot tub again surrounded by the quiet and the snow hoping it could last forever but we knew it had to

end sometime sadly it did.  That night we went to a fancy dinner: GOLDEN CORRAL!   Yeah thats how we celebrate!  It was it's yummy awesome goodness as always and it's us.

It was the last night there so we packed up so we could be ready to leave in the morning.  I didn't want to go and I tried to convince Todd that we needed to move to the mountains but for now it was back to the city.

We had an amazing time and couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon!  Two great people loving the great outdoors and loving each other.

Until next time!

To South Carolina and Beyond!!!!!!!!

This weekend Todd and I went to South Carolina to visit Thomas Hill for his birthday... and oh what a party it was!!  We went to Frankies Fun Park and it was a blasty blast!!  It was like adventure landing on steroids!  They had an amazing arcade and so many good games in it.  But the best was the laser tag.  BEST LASER TAG EVER!  We had so much fun and I beat all the boys! Yup over 4 hard core gamers I was number one on our team.  I'm so framing the score card because who knows when that will ever happen again.

It was nice a change of scenery and good to just "get out of town" for a bit.  Can't wait for the other trips in store for us this year.  Beach baby here we come!

Same Life New Patterns

Things have adjusted really well with Rusty being gone.  Duncan is doing great although he does NOT get nearly as much energy out as he did before when he had a playmate in the backyard with him so we'll have to help him with that more now.  But he's not having any separation issues at all.  In fact he's cut the bad habits he picked up from Rusty so that is fantastic!  We're much happier now although we miss him each and every day but each day it's gets better and better.  We know he's happy with his new family of four and we're loving our new groove!

Time heals all wounds

We're adjusting well to letting Rusty go.  Duncan is doing fantastic (we kinda even think he's so dumb he doesn't even know he's gone a blessing in disguise!)  Todd is taking it really well too it's been hard on him I can tell but he's to stubborn to let his emotions get the better of him.  Me on the other hand am probably taking it the hardest (being a women with crazy hormones doesn't help any either).  We know that it'll take time to patch our family up once again and in time we'll be normal again.  We're not focusing all our energy into making Duncan the best dog he can be, which shouldn't be too hard as he's super trainable.

We're making progress as it's only been two days since we gave him to a new home so it'll take time I know but it's progress all the same.

Bitter Sweet Goodbye

Yesterday we had to find Rusty a new home.  He needed it and we needed it and although it broke our hearts we know he'll be happier there and that's what matters.  We'll miss his energy but we know that the 5 acres of fenced in yard and the 2 little boys of his new family will love him more than ever and he'll be so happy.

We love you Rusty!

Happy New Year!!!!!

We made it once again through another new years eve extravaganza.  We spent the evening enjoying stressing our muscles to the point of exhaustion with some friends playing the Kinect for the Xbox 360.  We can say we now really really want one.

Not only is the game fun for one or two or as we put it to the test six! it's GREAT for exercising.  We woke up this morning the first day of 2011 and every muscle was sore.  You know you've got a good thing going on when you don't even know you've been exercising and you can do it for five straight hours.  What fun it was!

We doubled the party as a birthday celebration for our brother-in-law Jeremy Ray who is proudly serving our country over sea's in Afghanistan.  We wish him safety everyday.  His birthday coincided with New Year's eve so we decided to honer that birthday with some mini cupcakes for a birthday cake.

They turned out too cute.
Happy Birthday Jeremy!!!!!!!!
We wish everyone a wonderful and happy new year to this year of 2011 and please don't give up on your new years resolutions until AT-LEAST February... January is just a cop-out ;)
